Morgan Dyer and Erin Wolf met at Montserrat College of Art in 2011. They became quick friends during their junior year and had their senior studios next to each other. Wolf and Dyer have remained best friends and collaborators. As friendships ebb and flow they have remained constant in each other's lives through a cross country move, career changes, and navigating together through life's obstacles.
Even with 3,014 miles in between them they still collaborate often and lean on each other for advice and support, while both managing their art careers; sending art, podcasts, and music back and forth. When Wolf moved across the country one thing that kept the gals connected was yearly road trips around California. Together they have adventured to San Francisco, San Diego, Joshua Tree, day trips to Malibu, Bodega Bay, Santa Barbra and most importantly Big Sur. Each year the girls would stuff the Mini Cooper with camping supplies, little money, a shitty tent and cheap bottles of wine as they would head up the coast. They would always return inspired by the landscape and goal focused.
Both Wolf and Dyer viewed their 20’s as a time to explore and imagine. As they settle into their 30’s these trips are still imprinted memories. Which has inspired this collaboration. These wall sculptures are abstracted memory clips from their trips. Capturing the colors and textures along the way and symbolizes the special connection of female friendship.
Dyer brings a unique perspective to the pieces, as she creates bold and expressive brushstrokes. Wolf adds her own touch, infusing the sculpture with acrylic abstract cut pieces. Together, the two artists have created a piece that is both striking and thought-provoking, inviting viewers to see the world in a new light. Whether through the use of bold brushstrokes, vibrant colors, or the interplay of light through the acrylic colorful pieces, the sculpture shows abstracted memories of their road trips around California.
